THE FIND

Screenplay By: NJ

EXT. OUTSIDE OF TOWN-DUSK

We see a sign that says NEHALEM, we MOVE towards the GROCERY STORE, and we move to the SIDE of the STORE.

EXT. OUTSIDE OF STORE-DAY

DOOR OPENS, and PAUL exits with a brown paper BAG.

PAUL

(Hurriedly)

Thanks!

PAUL walks down the sidewalk and turns right up to the street, we follow. He continues, and takes a right up to the hill.

(CAMERA is situated at the hill, and filming when he walks up, and goes left of the CAMERA, and continues unto the others series of the small hills.)

(Keep doing this until PAUL arrives at HOME)

PAUL takes out keys, opens the door, and enters.

INT. HOME-EVENING

Sets down bags of groceries, and sits down in his chair. He sighs, and gets up and realizes that the answering machine has an unread message. He answers it.

CAMERON

Paul? Paul Fresna? It's Cameron. Just calling to see if you wanted to go to the pub tomorrow, wanted to catch up with you ya know? We haven't seen each other in a while and well... I have to go. Bye.

(ANSWERING MACHINE beeps)

He sighs again, and reaches into the grocery bag.

He takes out a pack of toilet paper, goes to the bathroom, and replaces a roll.

He turns on the stove, puts on a pot, and goes into the LIVING ROOM.

Puts in kindling into the FIRE STOVE, and lights it. Then puts logs into it. With a smirk of achievement on his face, he returns to the KITCHEN.

He takes out a bag of pasta, and puts it into the pot.

(CAMERA is in the pot, and is looking up when PAUL puts it into the pot.)

He adds water, and turns up the heat. He walks around nervously, looking around with a blank face. He goes back to the LIVING room, wandering around for something to do.

He puts more logs unto the fire, and drops down unto the big, brown chair. He taps his fingers on the arm of the chair (CLOSE UP). He turns on the TV, and sees that there's nothing on. He turns on the radio, and everything's boring.

He starts looking through his bookcase of stuff, and finds a book.

PAUL

Hmm? Oh, it must be his autobiography.

INT. LIVING ROOM-EVENING

He grabs it, and turns over to the cover. We see that it is called CELLAR DOOR (but his hand is covering the author).

He flips through it, and reads the last 10 pages. He frowns and looks puzzled, and starts over at the beginning of the book.

He continues to read, while the pot boils over with water. He realizes this when he hears it overflow unto the stove, and we hear it sizzle.

PAUL

DANG IT!

He rushes into the KITCHEN and scrambles over to get a rag. He cleans the mess up. He grabs a strainer, and strains it. He grabs some cheese from FRIDGE. He gets a bowl, puts his pasta in it, and grates some unto his pasta. He puts it back, and heads outside.

EXT. DECK-NIGHT

He watches the life around him as he eats it, and has a smile on his face. A porch light is on. He then heads back in with an empty bowl and a smile on his face from the meal.

He puts the bowl in the sink and goes back to the chair and reads the book.

He continually reads while the fire dims, and the night turns into dawn.

INT.HOME-DAWN

He turns on the percolator and goes back to the chair with a sigh.

EXT.DECK-DAWN

He goes outside, takes a deep breath, and goes unto the point of the deck and looks at the river below.

No one is at the river, and it is quiet.

INT.HOME-DAWN

He goes back inside at takes his cup and drinks from it. He goes into the living room and sits down and starts reading the book again.

He is at the ending of the book, and he widens his eyes and his eyebrows go up. He starts breathing strangely, and goes into the bathroom to wash his face. He looks into the mirror, looks down, and shakes his head.

He paces the living room floor, and holds his head with his hand.

He stares out to the window, and starts a fire again. He grabs the book, and stares at the title. CELLAR DOOR, by: JIM FRESNA.

He throws the book in the fire, and watches it burn, he turns to the kitchen, and walks slowly. He opens a drawer with knives in it, grabs one, puts it up to his throat, and the CAMERA abruptly stops.
